I get this error message approximately 60 % of the time when trying to open a link to a URL. I cannot get to yahoo and many other sites. I get a "connection refused when attempting to contact www.yahoo.com" , for instance, but I can tell that no DNS search is taking place.
I am using an Actiontec GT1701-WG DSL modem
Any suggestions?

what does your /etc/resolv.conf say?
make sure you have:
nameserver <ip-address-of-primary-DNS-server> <-- at the very least

Thanks very much, you hit the nail on the head!
The file read: <nameserver 192.168.0.1> which is the ip-address of my dsl modem. I put my primary-DNS-server-ip-address to the file and all is well.
I had looked through every nook and cranny I could find using the GUI menus with no luck, and found no mention of this potential problem in any Man Page or help file or troubleshootinf FAQ anywhere!
Thank you, thank you!
