    Are you using Xgl?

    I tried AIGLX,
but now I've installed XGL, and i have a different problem.
gdm doesn't start. It shows the mouse cursor, crashes, and retries for about 4 times,
and then sends me to this blue screen of X and complains about fglrx.
But when i start Xorg with "startx" command, it runs perfectly.

    what can it be?

I tried the aiglx and did everything step by step. I installed the nvidia beta drivers (firewings1 rpms) and desktop-effects command is not found ?????

Make sure you're using the most recent Compiz from download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/development/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS

As for the XGL problem, Make sure you have:
    Code:
    GdmXServerTimeout=60
    under [daemon] in you /etc/gdm/custom.conf

I get dependency problems though. Does it mean I have to move up to fc6t3 or something?

Ok, fair enough, because I tried that :P and while processing dependencies like crazy, had a list of packages that failed. So I might as well wait for FC6, I'm not going to go through all the trouble. Thanks for the How-to anyway.

p.s. Then again, its bothering me enough for me to try and get it to work anyway.

I don't really understand : you don't have the command 'chmod'
What returns 'ln -l' in that directory ? Try running the script with "sh configureXgl" in the good directory.

OK, I ran the script "sh configureXgl" and that worked.

    Thank You!

I have two problems, using aiglx and nvidia:

    1. My refresh rate seems to ignore the refresh rate i set it. It shows a couple refresh rates in the 50's in the screen resolution, i edited xorg.conf to force it to 60 and my monitor currently ignoring everything and is at 75. sigh

    2. The effects work, but when enabled, neither metacity or compiz work aka no titlebar.

    2 problems

    1. firewing1's nvidia beta drivers that I installed, I cant set my refresh rate, it ignores both the settings program for refreshrate and manually adding it in xorg.conf.

    2. When I enable the effects, I have a windows working with effects, but the titlebar goes missing.

    it says this in terminal

    Code:
compiz: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32
compiz: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32
compiz: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32
    compiz: water: GL_ARB_fragment_program is missing

make sure this is in your xorg.conf:
    Code:
    Section "Extensions"
            Option "Composite"
    EndSection
    Section "DRI"
            Group 0
            Mode 0666
    EndSection
And this in your "Device" section:
    Code:
            Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

ah i think im missing the option for the device. I'll try that and see if that's it.

EDIT: Yep that was it, was missing that option under device. Finally got it working and it's awesome

all that's left is my refresh problem :o

EDIT 2: lol, did not noice the nvidia control panel, refreshrate fixed. Man I'm an idiot.

I have had my share of difficulty getting XGL-Compiz-Nvidia to work but nothing that can't be overcome if one tries hard enough and your harware supports it.

I originally got eveything running on a PIV dual core 1Gig RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 7300 pci-express 256 MB DDR2 running FC5.
Then being a "glutton for punishment" I wondered if I could get the XGL-Cube thingy running on a older (1998 vintage) H-P desktop. This box is running a recent install of FC5 Re-Spin and used Firewing1's advice and script to get FC6 developement release.

I went to the Nvidia site and downloaded the latest beta driver and installed it and every thing went well.
Some specs on this box: PIII 550MHz 512MB RAM Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP 2X 256 MB memory.

Here's what I get when I run "glxinfo" from a terminal.
