Exclamation black screen, "YUM LIVNA fglrx" trouble

Hi there,

being confronted with a black screen on my 1280x800 Acer Aspire Notebook each time I start a GUI, I found some troubleshooting hints.
Apparently my ATI drivers are to blame for the mess. But when I follow the instructions at:

http://fedorasolved.org/video-solutions/ati-yum-livna/

and I try to install fglrx as a substitute to the ATI driver through

Code:
su -c 'yum install xorg-x11-drv-fglrx kmod-fglrx glx-utils'
... the only message I get from YUM is

"Nothing to do"

well ...? Livna rpm is definitely properly installed. So what's causing the trouble?

I am very grateful for any help on this issue!
thx in advance, saschaw

What version of Fedora are you running? Please provide as much detail as possible. If you are running Fedora 7, the only way to get the driver to work is to use an older version of the xorg package as the xorg version that comes with Fedora 7 is not supported by the latest ATI driver until the next release of the driver later this month.

Hi.
I am indeed using FC7. Where can I get an older version of the xorg package and will that be working with FC7?

Thumbs up

WOW.

I got a great hint!!
Just adding

Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,Auto"

into xorg.conf under DEVICE solves the problem!!!

You can type
Code:
fglrxinfo
from the command line and it should give you the information on the fglrx driver you are using. If you see Mesa in the reply from the system you are not using the driver. Also you can type:
Code:
su -c 'glxinfo | grep direct'
and if you get direct rendering:yes then it's working.
