Serial Port not available on FC7, ok FC5

I have both FC7 and FC5 installed on the same machine. On boot both find the serial port:

serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
00:07: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550

and setserial returns:

setserial -a /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, Line 0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
Baud_base: 115200, close_delay: 50, divisor: 0
closing_wait: 3000

Attached to the serial port is a US Robotics 56k FaxModem that I use for faxing on a pots line. It works fine in FC5, but FC7 reports there is no modem.

Any ideas on how to get the port and modem working?

in my case driver's(internal modem) I/O and IRQ is not matching with my serial ports number. so that at the time of configuring dialup i am not being able to mention the serial port where my driver is. any idea can u give me to solve it??????????????

Me too.
I have tried everything I could find so far.
rc.local - it wont stick
made a startup.sh for my account – don't work, will not chmod 0660 /dev/ttyS0
tried to edit /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules – that's just pissing in the wind

what works?
In a terminal type sudo chmod 0660 /dev/ttyS0
or set the permissions with a root session of your favorite file manager.
Or run as root, and we all know how that will get you pounced on around here.

And , please, what did you get to work in FC5 for faxing? So far all I have that might work is efax-gtk but haven't actually been able to send a fax yet with it. At least it acts like it will work.
I tried hylafax it looks like everything is loading hfaxd, faxq, faxgetty but faxstat keeps telling me it can't find the server on localhost 4559

This is maddening! In Windows, click, click, click you got your fax service up and running. Yes, I know this aint Windows. Do you think I would have any better luck with faxing in ubuntu ?
