More Google Earth

Hi all. Regarding Google Earth. I've always had pretty fair results with Google Earth under Fedora, however, problems arise now. I've done some searching of the forum and on Google itself with no satisfying results. I turn to all here. Just installed Google Earth 4.3 beta. I downloaded the .bin file from earth.google.com. It installs fine but when run from terminal as regular user or root I get the following error.
Code:
[glenn@toshiba ~]$ googleearth
do_wait: drmWaitVBlank returned -1, IRQs don't seem to be working correctly.
Try running with LIBGL_THROTTLE_REFRESH and LIBL_SYNC_REFRESH unset.
The program does eventually run if I wait a couple minutes. I've installed Google Earth 4.3 on two computers, a desktop with a Radeon card and a laptop with an Intel Video chip. Same error both machines. The kernel on both machines is 2.6.24.4-64.fc8. That said, I have 2 questions. One, any ideas on how to get around my little issue (anyone else having the same problem?), and 2, if I can't overcome the errors then how do I uninstall a .bin file? I'm thinking of installing the 4.2 version to see if that works any better.

Hello glennzo,

I have:

4.3.7191.6508 (beta)

working perfectly here on an nVidia graphics card, new controls take a bit of getting used to though, I'll take a look and see what I've got on my ATI graphics laptop.

EDIT: On my ATI X200M graphics laptop it works perfectly.

On my Intel based laptop the default grahhics driver is "experimental modesetting driver" and there it displays exactly the fault you describe. Using the alternative i810 graphics driver it loads OK but jerks about the screen instead of flowing smoothly.

Hi bbfuller. Still playing with this. I was watching Xorg.0.log while initializing GoogleEarth again. There was some new output as the program was running.
Code:
FreeType: couldn't find encoding 'iso8859-13' for '/usr/share/fonts/cjkunifonts-uming/uming.ttf'
This error is on both systems also.

I had exactly the same problem, Dell Inspiron 6400 (2G RAM), running Fedora 8. It was so slow to totally unusable.

Fortunately the previous version was available on the download link, so that has fixed the problem for now.

I'm keeping the binary ready for Fedora 9.

I installed the previous version also, after starting this thread. No joy. Same thing. No big deal. Google Earth is just a toy anyhow. I can live without it.
