What is a 'damaged header'?

I just did a clean install of FC2. I tweaked my yum.conf (as usual), and did a "yum update" (as usual). This time. I'm getting this:

kernel-0-2.6.6-1.435.2.3. 100% |=========================| 140 kB 05:01
Damaged Header /var/cache/yum/updates-released/headers/kernel-0-2.6.6-1.435.2.3.i686.hdr
kernel-0-2.6.6-1.435.2.3. 100% |=========================| 52 kB 05:01
Damaged Header /var/cache/yum/updates-released/headers/kernel-0-2.6.6-1.435.2.3.i686.hdr

what's up with this? Last night DAG was broke, and wouldn't let me install anything. I've seen this damaged header thing before. Do I need to do anything to fix this? Thanks

ed

Delete the file and let it download one more time.

I still don't know what it is. What's damaged? What causes the damage? What are the effects of a damaged header to my system? Why is my big toe smaller than my middle toe?

To understand what a damaged header is, one have to understand what a header is.

A header is a tiny file with information about one package available in a repository. Each available package has one header file. Yum will use the headers to check for dependencies, get file sizes and such.

If Yum starts to download a header, but is aborted, you're left with a partial or damaged header. These headers are useless and must be removed or replaced by a good header. Yum should do this automatically.

what if i
Code:
yum clean headers
and i get

Code:
[root@Klamathia root]# yum clean headers
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
Damaged or Bad header.info from Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
This is probably because of a downed server or an invalid header.info on a repository.

Then try to manually remove the headers:

Code:
rm -f /var/cache/yum/base/headers/*.hdr
After doing this, you'll have to get all the headers again, which will take some time.

Code:
[root@Klamathia root]# rm -f /var/cache/yum/base/headers/*.hdr
[root@Klamathia root]# yum clean headers
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
Damaged or Bad header.info from Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
This is probably because of a downed server or an invalid header.info on a repository.

p.s. i ran
