USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
I'm trying to install fedora 15 on my new Goflex Desk 1 TB USB 3.0 external drive but the installer isn't detecting it and everythings set in my bios. Is that being worked on, just wondering?

Re: USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
Wow no response, would've been nice to know if it's being worked on so that USB 3.0 can be detected by the fedora installer.

Re: USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
Your observation is probably correct. When I install Fedora 15 on my new Dell laptop, the installer apparently could not recognize the mouse on one of the USB 3.0 port. I moved it to a USB 2.0 port and that worked well.

exactly USB 2.0 no problem, I guess they need to implement USB 3.0 in the code I'm just hoping they might be able to do it for the next release.

Re: USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
If you do a forum search using "usb 3.0" as a search term, you'll find many threads like this one. While this one may or may not solve your problem, the others may have better solutions.

just wondering if its a Kernel problem or anaconda. but IMO USB3.0 is still rather New, have a look in redhat Bugzilla for a similar problem which may have a solution or use Google which may find a solution but what if you connect another device to your USB3 port, does it find a device on it?

Nope the installer anaconda doesn't detect any device connected to the USB 3.0 port, as you said it is fairly new so I understand if I have to wait until next release for this to work, thanks for all the responses.

there isnt even many USB3 devices out AFAIK . maybe what you could do is try a F16 RC5 DvD as that has the 3.0.x kernel and i dunno if Anaconda is designed in it to detect ASB3

is the device USB3 compatible?

Re: USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
Sorry, I did misunderstand. Fedora kernel comes with usb 3.0 disabled because it interferes with something else. You would need a different kernel in order to install. I don't know of a grub cheat code that would be a work around.

Re: USB 3.0 not detected by Fedora 15 installer
I was going to use ESATA for my backup, (which I'd have to order) but I found that in MY area (ohio) that USB 3.0 external drives are quite common & plentiful (at least at Wal-mart) so I plan to use that instead.
Question to LOPOV;
I just want to confirm, you CAN read & write, as well as boot, the USB 3.0, correct? - I assume that if you can BOOT, you can read / write, but I don't like to assume anything!

I tried installing the USB 3.0 drive through the USB 2.0 port, it installs and I put it back into the USB 3.0 port where it does boot but does not finish starting, it spits out an error and stops.

if you could get a screenshot of the error message an upload it here would be of some help

Sorry, but this really doesn't tell me if you are able to read / write to it under USB 3.0, all it tells me is that it will NOT boot.

Well I have F15 installed on a hard drive in a USB 2.0 dock and when I connect the USB 3.0 external hard drive to the USB 3.0 port it is recognized and I am able to put files on the drive and read them, does that answer your question?

Dropping to debug shell.
sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
