convert AVI to MP4

Can anyone recommend a Linux app that will take a list of AVI files and convert them to MP4 format? I have a bunch of videos that I burned from DVD (for personal use, and watching on my iphone during a long commute), but the MP4 format from my DVD app for some reason didn't make them compatible with my computer, or my iphone, so I burned to AVI, and they work on my computer, but won't sync with my phone.

I'm trying to see if there are any Linux packages that can convert the AVI's to MP4, so I can watch them on my phone.

Re: convert AVI to MP4

you could use Arista Transcoder or Handbrake. Or if you prefered command line tools maybe h264enc or ffmpeg.
