Exclamation Can not log in

OS: Fedora 16 x86
Desktop: KDE4
When I start up my Fedora laptop, it gets to the point where the fedora logo is visible. Usually, the next step is to display the logon screen ( kdm ). But instead it goes to text mode and says a bunch of gibberish about misaligned_regs. Then if I press Ctrl+Alt+F2 to go to tty2 to log in, and type in my user name, and press enter, it says "Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 611: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!" and then "resets" the screen so quickly I can not read the whole message. What I mean by "reset" is, it goes back to displaying something like the following:
Fedora 16 ( Verne )
tty2
login:
I do not know how to fix it. NOTE: I have a RescueCD (Gentoo) Flash Drive to work on the computer even when Fedora will not login.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Benji

Re: Can not log in

Can you boot into recovery mode (either init 1 or 3)?
You can achieve this by pressing e at the GRUB selection menu.
Simply add either a 1 or 3 at the end of the line looking like:
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.7-1.fc16.x86_64 root= and some more values 3

If that is working, the output of either
Code:
dmesg | grep EE
or, if that is 'empty'..
Code:
grep EE /var/log/messages
would help.

Re: Can not log in

Code:
[root@LAPTOP ~]# dmesg | grep EE
[ 12.845297] ath: EEPROM regdomain: 0x64
[ 12.845307] ath: EEPROM indicates we should expect a direct regpair map

Thumbs up Re: Can not log in

Fixed the problem. Got into recovery mode, connected to the Internet, and did
yum reinstall glibc binutils libtool-ltdl libffi
yum update
reboot
And it started up fine.
