Installing and Running xfce Desktop

As per instructions at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Xfce#I...tion_using_yum, I have used
Quote:
# yum groupinstall XFCE
to successfully install (no error messages reported) on my F14 box. I gather that I should now see a "Session" option to select a desktop when I log in again. When I do log in again, there is no option to select a desktop, and the box starts with the Gnome desktop.

Is there something else I have to do to start a xfce desktop?

TIA,
Jon

You need to enter your password but don't press enter before the session menu appears.

Re: Installing and Running xfce Desktop

Thanks, ozjd, but after entering my password and waiting for one minute, no additional login prompting occurs. Eventually, I press return and I've got a Gnome desktop.

Re: Installing and Running xfce Desktop

On F14 I don't think t's a prompt after passwd - there is an on screen button somewhere 'option' or 'session' or maybe just an icon.

Re: Installing and Running xfce Desktop

Thanks, Steve. There is an option on the panel displayed at the bottom of the screen which allows me to select my desktop when I log in. I missed it earlier.

F16 Xfce (4.8) is great, if you are looking to update your system. I have F16 Xfce (32-bit) running smoothly on an old Dell Inspiron 1100 (1 gig of ram), my old workstation and now spare machine. On my new notebook, Toshiba Satelitte C655, F16 Xfce (64-bit) is my main machine for work and play.

And F18 Xfce will feature Xfce 4.10
