Firefox/Thunderbird not displaying text

This after noon i was upgrading some of the packages on my FC4 system using yumex. All was well until after i was done upgrading, i went to check my email using Thunderbird and then wanted to check some news with Firefox. Both programs wouldn't display any text anywhere in the window, including all menus. They would only display underscores or spaces where letters and words should've been. Even if i would right-click in the window, all of those options were either underscore or space characters. I decided to uninstall firefox and reinstall it, but with the same results.

I think part of my problem could've been when I was upgrading packages this afternoon, i was upgrading from both fedora and other repo's like dag, dries, atrpm, etc. I guess I didnt expect a problem because I was just upgrading and not installing anything, but I suspect that is where my problem lies. Is there a log of packages installed or upgraded from yum? Do I have any hope of salvaging firefox? Thanks in advance for any replies!
