Talking My Linux Fedora on VMWare...

i hope i could get positive feedback here.

Lastly ...
i'm Windows user,
using Geforce FX 5500
it's enough for me to play around with some
3D apps

but then when i need to use Linux..
i was confused, so i decided to Migrate just using VMWare
and it's successfull to install Fedora 8 on it.

But the probs here is, the Fedora 8 seems didnt recognize
my Geforce 5500...

HOW COULD I KNOW?

coz when i try to ENABLE the Desktop Effect
within it, CAN'T!!!

The effect is when i try to click on it, to enable i mean...
IT's REDIRECTING me to the front phase again...!!
Which is to the LOG-IN phase...again and again...!!

each time i want to enable the Desktop Effect...
it's making me jumped to the LOGIN... OMG!!!

and when i check it, the Desktop Effect still UNCHECKED...
what a whip!

some one could help me out of this?

Is it Geforce FX 5500 within VMWare

I wonder if i could see the Device Manager within Fedora 8...

coz i dont know whether my Geforce 5500 is working or not.

what i get is the screen with a bulky face...
similar like windows firstly installed without any proper driver there...

and so this VGA ...OMG
how to check it on Linux?

coz each time i want to change Resolution into 1024 x 768
the screen seems OK
but it's having 0 Mhz... it's UN NORMAL ... right?

coz if it's in Windows XP
when i use 1024 x 768 it always giving me 60 Mhz or above...
OMG...help me...

why i get this??
and also the other effect i cant get it on this Fedora 8 with my Geforce 5500

why>>>??

help....!!

Maybe you can't run desktop effects in vmware?

"Device Manager" for Fedora is called hwbrowser. Install it with the command
Code:
sudo yum install hwbrowser
The command
Code:
/sbin/lspci | grep Display
will show you what video card Fedora is recognizing. Please post the output of the following command:
Code:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Maybe we can make some changes to it to get you a better, if not temporary, basic graphics interface. Additionally, you need to search the forum for instructions on how to install the NVidia drivers. Probably kmod-nvidia.

Edit: Re-reading this post it occurs to me that you may be referring to graphics drivers / info while running the OS in VMWare? If so, disregard everything I've said

Any OS running inside VMware doesn't see your physical display card, only VMware emulation of a dumb SVGA display card. You don't get any 3D acceleration support for your guest OS, so you can't use the desktop effects.
