Newbie Failed at the 1st Hurdle - iso file verification

I have downloaded both versions of Fedora 11 (Gnome and KDE) to iso files on my hard disk - in Windows XP. I then tried the verification procedure advised in http://docs.fedoraproject.org/readme...ing-files.html, section 3.1. I have successfully installed and run hashcalc, with the SHA1 option, and got the following results:
- for the Gnome version : 795b52b3c7b16eba6f2cae055ec894d8648d8095
- for the KDE version : 38ef6c97e29803add28d40add05aa025b6f4c92b.
But I can't find any SHA1SUM files to give me the correct character sequences against which to compare the said results.
Please can someone help this ingenue?

They should have been included in the download - If I remember correctly, the file has the extension -CHECKSUM.

^ If not, you can go to one of the mirrors and check in the relevant release directory, for example:

Code:
Index of /linux/releases/11/Fedora/i386/iso
[ICO]	Name	Last modified	Size	Description
[DIR]	Parent Directory	 	-
[ ]	Fedora-11-i386-CHECKSUM	05-Jun-2009 00:20 	1.6K
[ ]	Fedora-11-i386-DVD.iso	03-Jun-2009 01:07 	3.4G

Hello everybody,

And the final important detail: The hashes in that file are SHA-256 hashes, not SHA-1 hashes. HashCalc can handle that, too.

Thanks to jpollard, but there were no such files included in the two downloads I performed.

Thanks also to parish, but I did not download from that mirror, or, indeed, any other that I know of; nor do I recognise any of the iso file names you have quoted. (I confess that I don't understand much about mirrors, and I have never used them for any other downloads of anything. I have on many occasions tried to use bit/uTorrent, but have found the performance to be so poor as to be virtually useless in practical situations.)

The following are the addresses for my two downloads, which appear to me to be authentic from the fedoraproject.org site:

Gnome version: http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...-i686-Live.iso

KDE version: http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...6-Live-KDE.iso

I repeat, these two downloads did not include checksum files.

Please can someone help further? I really haven't time to spend on installing distros for which my downloads may have been defective.

The checksum files are in the same directory as the image files you downloaded: http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...-Live-CHECKSUM http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...e-KDE-CHECKSUM

Look at at the get fedora link at fedoraproject.org. At the very top of the page, to the right of the section headed

Get Fedora 11 Desktop Edition Now
Installable Live CD

is a heading called Resources. The 4th item is what you are looking for.

Resources
* Fedora 11 Installation Guide
* Fedora 11 Release Notes
* Help & Support
* Verify your download

Alternatively, you could have gone to the parent directory of the downloads. The gnome version is

http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...-i686-Live.iso

so look in the directory

http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu.../11/Live/i686/
Code:
Index of /pub/linux/distributions/fedora/linux/releases/11/Live/i686
[ICO]	Name	Last modified	Size
[DIR]	Parent Directory	 	-
[ ]	Fedora-11-i686-Live-CHECKSUM	04-Jun-2009 21:41 	966
[ ]	Fedora-11-i686-Live-KDE-CHECKSUM	04-Jun-2009 21:41 	970
[ ]	Fedora-11-i686-Live-KDE.iso	04-Jun-2009 10:26 	686M
[ ]	Fedora-11-i686-Live.iso	04-Jun-2009 10:14 	688M

Many thanks to all of you who replied. Now I have been able to verify the integrity of both iso downloads. I don't now have time to progress further with trial live CD installations, but I hope they will go smoothly, so that I don't need to bother the community further!
