Warning During Today's Update

While running "sudo yum --nogpgcheck update" for today's update, I got the following 3 consecutive messages:

Code:
  Installing : kernel-2.6.31.5-115.fc12.x86_64 10/124
W: Possible missing firmware aic94xx-seq.fw for module aic94xx.ko
W: Possible missing firmware ql8100_fw.bin for module qla2xxx.ko
Does anybody know if it's safe to reboot and test the new kernel?

Thanks,
dd_wizard

EDIT: There were no errors or warnings during the kernel-firmware-2.6.31.5-115.fc12.noarch update.

It is ok to reboot.
They are only informational messages.

Thanks SJ, I was a little concerned because AIC handles CPU cooling iirc.

I think firmware aic94xx-seq.fw for module aic94xx.ko is an old bug for Aptec raid sas controller.

I can't imagine a cpu getting firmware to cool itself but I like the idea.

I had some messages about possible missing firmware during the previous (not today's) kernel update, it booted up just fine. fwiw. I'm also now booted to the newest kernel, so far so good. i updated that first and rebooted and now I'm downloading the rest of the updates.

it's entirely safe to ignore these messages.

those modules are for enterprise-level storage controllers, so even if they were totally broken (which they aren't) it would not be a problem unless you were installing a Fedora 12 pre-release on an extremely expensive box which probably holds critical data for an entire company and causes you to lose your job if it falls over. So, uh, yeah, the people who use those modules are not running Fedora 12 Beta on 'em. =)

(in fact there's not really any 'bug' here anyway; those firmwares are 'missing' because they're not redistributable, and in one case the firmware is actually provided by a different mechanism when you actually have that hardware anyway. if there's a bug, it's that we could probably filter the predictable, non-problematic cases of these messages out.)
