Let me ask you this Bert, if Windows is so terrible then why are all these people not flocking to Mac or Linux? People realize there are alternatives, it is not like many do not understand this now. But yet they stay with Windows. Maybe it is not as bad as you are led to believe?

Most Win copies are pre-installed on new PCs. IMO, Microsoft uses market position unfairly to influence PC distributors to pre-install Windows.

Advertising.

Retail stores (some, perhaps most) get commissions on Win copies sold, plus profit margin on boxed copies.

I've personally seen sales staff steer prospective customers away from Linux and toward Windows including being misleading about relative capabilities.

Okay. This one's run it's course. Due to requests from the community, I'm going to cinch the lid down on this one ... then snap the heads off the screws.

First, Thread closed.

Then, a comment.

Folks ... I'd like to point out three things.

1) This is a fedora Linux support community forum. We're here to help each other get this silly distro up to snuff and working. We're not here to sell dill pickles, ugly boots, bad knock-off Chinese jewellery ... or Microsoft Windows.

2) Computer software, be it from Redmond, Raliegh or wherever Mac OS calls home, is all human written, designed and implemented. As long as there are humans (and money) in the production/user chain and the second law of thermodynamics remains active, there will be vulnerabilities ... and despicable jerks to take advantage of them.

3) On the subject of FUD ... I have never heard of any Linux distro of any kind purchasing prime-time-drive 30 and 60 second spots on the radio, advertising an offer of a million dollar reward to anyone who turns in their family members, employers and friends for possibly running pirated software, which results in a successful civil prosecution of said alleged pirates. (brought to you by your friends at the BSA - in all major urban business markets -- usually on AM talk radio stations) Compared to that odious little bit of social engineering ... somehow a little FUD and fanboy support of Linux ... on a Linux forum, just doesn't bother me too much at all. Even if it is mostly comprised of demonstrable barn biscuits -- on both sides!

Comment added.
