F12 lockups and black screens ATI R200

I have been seeing complete lockups or black screens with every kernel since 2.6.31.5-96.
With the latest updates I get the desktop but it dies to black on the first attempt to click on anything.
I'm have an ATI R200 chipset(using Radeon) . I don't see anything unusual in any of the log files.
with the ...96 kernel, all is well.
I will likely try to reinstall with the RC if I don't find an answer soon.

When you say 'every' kernel, does that include 122? Also, what xorg-x11-server-Xorg version do you have?

Yes, the ..122 kernel and xorg= 1.7.1-7.
I have been following the related thread and hoped the updates would fix my problem too but ,not yet.
In my case the problem seems to get more severe with each update.

does it work better if you boot with 'nomodeset' kernel parameter?

I'll try that tonight.

This video chipset has been a problem for previous versions of Fedora also.
I could not use F9 or F11 with it. I used another distribution between F8 and F10 and had a couple of conversations with you in your previous life.
Thanks then, thanks now.

Using nomodeset seems to have done it.
I didn't consider that before because it worked fine with the earlier kernels.
thanks.

it's a workaround not a fix, it does look like you're hitting a bug here; I was just trying to narrow down where it is. Could you report a bug with all info from this thread, your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/messages ? Let me know the URL so I can triage it. Thanks!
