Fedora "installs," then I can't find the boot directory on restart

Working on a mac mini with 80GB SATA2, 1GB DDR2 667, 1.83 GHz Core2Duo. OS X 105.2 (Leopard) if that's relevant.

I installed Fedora with LiveCD using the instructions for root and /boot as posted here. It says the installation is completed, and asks me to restart. I do that, and then all I see when holding down the option key is the Mac boot drive and the Fedora optical disk I just installed from.

What could be the issue here?

Don't you need a boot manager such as rEFIT to dual boot Mac OSX and Linux?
