Important change in Fedora development

For a long time now the development branch of Fedora called Rawhide has been frozen in particular milestones like Alpha or Beta leading up to the next general release and while there has been an opportunity to build for the next release via early branching the model going forward is different

There are now two development branches

The goal is to convert rawhide into a permanent development branch and the development branch for the next release would continue in parallel freeing developers to push breaking changes into Rawhide leaving the development branch for the next release to stabilize more

Summarize: Rawhide is likely to even more faster development and more users would be able to participate in development early on because of increasing stability for development of next release

When F13, yum update -y resulted in all the repos being disabled. AND some FC14 packages being installed on a FC13 test platform.

thats why you should never use the -y switch when yum updating or your gonna have a fight to get FC14 rpms our of your fc13 box

Run Gparted, right click on afflicted parttion, click delete. Insert USB with F13 LiveCD image. Re-install. Double check /etc/yum.repos.d/ to see what exists and what is and is not enabled. I removed the rawhide repo. Time for another yum update -y

I'm thinking the timing of this change could have been better.

So at this point the branch that was rawhide has been split is this correct? Enabling the rawhide repo file will give me the files that will become F14. Is that correct? What repo file do I need in order to get the files that will become F13? Can I just enable standard updates if I already have a F13 /etc/fedora-release file? Are we waiting for a new fedora-release RPM file? I'm so confused.

Also, just FYI -- though I haven't' tried today, for the last couple of days the rpmfusion repos (rpmfusion-free and nonfree, and testing) have given me errors about unable to find repo metadata so I have them disabled. I'm not sure if rpmfusion is going to also use the testing repo for F13 or continue with rpmfusion-rawhide.

Does anyone know?
