Question Fedora 13 (32-bit) - Where's fingerprint? Not showing in gnome-about-me

My laptop (Compal KHLB2) has a fingerprint reader, it's working fine on win7 (with dedicated drivers), but it is not showing in any part of fedora 13 gnome gui.
I search fprint in yumex and it is installed by default, but I cannot see any option to enable fingerprint, even in gnome-about-me.
Sooo... where can i find and set it?
Help me plz guys

Have you checked System -> About me? There is a button that says "Enable fingerprint login ...".

Which fingerprint reader do you have? Some fingerprint readers are not supported yet, for example, the Authentec 2810 built into my ThinkPad isn't supported, too.

You can get a list of supported/unsupported devices here: http://reactivated.net/fprint/wiki/Unsupported_devices

it's an EgisTech Inc. device. I dunno if it is an ES603 or a ES603-WB or a SS801 U http://www.egistec.com/en/index.aspx

Re: Fedora 13 (32-bit) - Where's fingerprint? Not showing in gnome-about-me

Strange. I am unsure how the device is connected. Obviously, not using USB.

Edit: Every device from Egistech uses USB and their devices are spread around several laptops. I keep looking for a driver.

As you can see here, others do also have this problem concerning your fpr: http://www.mail-archive.com/fprint@r.../msg01054.html

Edit2: After careful consideration I guess that you need to contact the manufactor to ask for a download-link for their fpr-framework: http://www.egistec.com/products/bioexcess-linux.aspx

unfortunately it seems that the fingerprinters made by egistech don't have any drivers for linux, that's untill egistech will release his framework for linux and that's very sad egistech!

Did you install libfprint? Maybe you can try enabling the device with ThinkFinger: http://thinkfinger.svn.sourceforge.n...in?view=markup

But please try installing libfprint first!

Edit: As mentioned here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=474994 there may be problems concerning your device. I had a similar problem with AuthenTec 2810 (?) and finally, I gave up (because there are no drivers, yet for it). Why don't you use the fpr (in case that we don't get it working here) for startup authentication? This works without any problems.

Edit2: If the authentication using gdm-plugin only doesn't work, take a look at http://www.pdfserver.net/fingerprint/index.php

Unhappy Re: Fedora 13 (32-bit) - Where's fingerprint? Not showing in gnome-about-me

Hi,

On Fedora 12 here. ThinkFinger seems to have disappeared as an option in the Fedora repository. That said, Fedora seemed to detect my fingerprint reader on installation (it enabled fingerprint login in admin for me, without me having to do anything) but I don't get the button on user edit screens to Enable.

lshw says this:

Code:
Generic USB device
/0/100/1a.1/1/1

product: Fingerprint Sensor [8FF:2810]
vendor: AuthenTec, Inc. [8FF]
bus info: usb@4:1
version: 17.03
capabilities:
	USB 2.0
configuration:
	maxpower: 100mA
	speed: 12.0MB/s

this device hasn't been claimed
It doesn't say which AuthenTec chipset it is, but since the machine is a HP, it's reasonable to assume the aes2501 driver listed here should support it:
http://www.reactivated.net/fprint/wi...ported_devices

The website linked to implies support is bundled, but no driver seems to be loaded for my device. Any suggestions? I've been using Linux for a few years now, but I'm not very good when hardware starts not working as expected...
