Problem whith clear 2.6.9 kernel compilation and installing FC3.

Hello!

I have some problems with kernel 2.6.9. I download clear kernel 2.6.9 from www.kernel.org.
After that "make oldconfig" with config file coming with FC3 distrib. Than changed some params in config file using "make menuconfig" (processor type), then started compilation... Compilation die with erros in some SCSI drivers. I disabled them and started compilation again. Compilation was succsesful.

After that change grub.conf to boot with my new kernel.
Booting started with new kernel but stoped with message:
'Warning: unable to open initial console'

Please help me to start new kernel!

I resolv this problem.
this options must be on:

CONFIG_UNIX98_PTYS=Y
CONFIG_LEGACY_PTYS=Y

CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=Y
CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT=Y
CONFIG_DEVPTS_FSXATTR=Y
CONFIG_DEVPTS_SECURITY=Y

Can be has forgotten that that to specify ..)))

May be default config coming with prebilded kernel in distr, not from this prebilded kernel... !

ok ... you can use defualt config to compile 2.6.9(10) kernel... but you must do mkinitrd after that

Actually, it's easier if you just enable initrd support in the configuration. Then a "make ; make modules ; make install ; make modules_install ; depmod -ae" will automatically copy the kernel to the "/boot" directory, it will also create an initrd image for you and even upgrade your "/boot/grub/grub.conf" files.....

savea a lot of typing and cuts down on the possibility of a typographical error.
