F15 Live CD crashes immediately on Amilo notebook.

Hi,

I have a Fujitsu Amilo Pi 3525 notebook with 4 GB RAM and I am trying out Fedora 15 64-bit. When I boot from the CD, it reboots at the point where plymouth should exit and X should start. There are no obvious error messages from the console; it just reboots.

Here is the hardware spec. for this laptop:

This notebook has been generally reliable and runs 64-bit Ubuntu without any problems. I am planning to test the CD in another host (although the media check did not fail) and at least try the 32-bit version (even though I know it can't address of the RAM).

As experiences with Linux go, it feels a little early to hit a brick wall so early in the process. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

hi Modeler,

your testing scheme seems right to me. maybe the CD is not well. I use Live USB versions and altough making them with no errors and correct checksum it sometimes refuses. making anew with the same downloaded .iso might help.

BTW strange that the standard M$ OS as in your link is 32-bit where the Core 2 Duo is 64...

regards, Meine

Hello meine, thanks for your reply. I'll try a few more things and post the results.

Yeah, mine actually came with 64-bit Vista which I swiftly replaced with Ubuntu. I'd like to go with Fedora from now on as I hate the Unity desktop they've adopted. I know you can turn it off in Ubuntu, but things aren't quite the way they were in version 10 (compiz for starters).

Thanks.

Re: F15 Live CD crashes immediately on Amilo notebook.

Sometimes, the LiveCD image will hit snags with some hardware combinations, and trying with the full install DVD may work. Have you tried the full install DVD yet?

I would give the 64 bit a try using the full install DVD and if you still have some issues, try installing using the second option from the boot menu, (install using basic video)

If you still are experiencing problems after trying that, then someone here should be able to help you out and find out where the problem is occurring.
