... and how to set it up.

Toshiba R830 - (F15)

It seems the fingerprint reader is detected, and several related packages are installed, but I can't find any tools available to either set it up. or activate it for use.

Any clues here?

EDIT: On second look ... maybe it isn't detected. Nothing related seems to show up in lshw.

Re: Clueless about the Fingerprint reader ...

It seems like the portege has been purchased. If this issue is still unresolved, on Fedora 14:

1. Install gdm-plugin-fingerprint
In gnome:
2. System/Administration/Advanced Options allows system-enabling of fingerprint logins.
3. System/Preferences/About Me provides the per-user ability to enable/disable fingerprint login for gnome.

Re: Clueless about the Fingerprint reader ...

Hey Dan - you need a driver - you know the drill - post the relevant bits of lsusb or lspci. The more details the better.
If the driver is installed - not it (lsmod of course).

Right now, this one has my curiosity peaked.

It's obvious that Toshiba has intertwined the BIOS/CMOS with Windows 7 in a great many ways, but I have to admit it's got me stumped.

Re: Clueless about the Fingerprint reader ...

It' probably on an internal USB like
lsusb ....
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 147e:2016 Upek Biometric Touchchip/Touchstrip Fingerprint Sensor
fprint_demo seems partly broken for the Upek.
fprintd-delete fprintd-enroll fprintd-list fprintd-verify - work as expected
These manage the fp signature.
If you install gdm-plugin-fingerprint fingerprint-auth-ac fingerprint-auth you should be able to use
'system-config-authentication' to enable fingerprint auth. Use gnome-about-be to disable.

I can't say I've come across this device before. My (supported) Authentec 2501 has ID:

08ff:2580

If what you're using is one of the devices with hardware encryption/scanning then it may not be or may not get supported.
