F15: NetworkManager and 'unmanaged device' problem

Hello,

I have installed bridge-utils to run virtual machines on Fedora 15, and primary (wired, constantly connected) interface connected through a bridge interface is an 'unmanaged device` from NetworkManager viewpoint.

Everything works fine, but NetworkManager reports network state as 'disconnected' and I am fed up persuading (manually) software such as Firefox that it does NOT work in offline mode.

Is there a simple way to put device into 'managed' state in such a situation or force NetworkManager report 'connected' state?

Devices (lo, bridge one and local Ethernet adaptor) are brought up by 'network' service.

Thanks.

Re: F15: NetworkManager and 'unmanaged device' problem

I'm with you 100%. I disabled network manager because it gets in the way and I don't require it at all.

However it's frustrating having to inform thunderbird I'm not offline etc.

The worst thing is that the gui software updates _do not work_ with network manager off, it always reports you are offline and unable to get updates. I update manually using yum, however it's ridiculous that networkmanager is now so baked in that it can prevent automatic updates from running. It's a fail in my book.

I'm on Fedora 16 btw
