Strange Firefox&Chrome issues

Hi,

Since I'm using Fedora 16 with Gnome3 I have strange issues with Firefox and Chrome. Since it affects both browsers I suspect it might be a Gnome issue?

The problem is, that certain websites (some, not many) are displayed inproperly. It is always the same scheme: In Firefox everything is in place, but texts are displayed "greyed out" and almost unreadable.
In Chrome, those texts are not displayed at all and some Links and Images don't work.

I can't post the URL to the websites (the forum won't let me), but two of the websites I discovered are the Icescrum website and the vagrantup website.

Screenshots are attached.

Re: Strange Firefox&Chrome issues

No Problems here with Opera 11.61 and Firefox 9.0.1 (F16, GS-3.2.1-2).

A thought: I remember of a similar problem that affected Opera's font rendering on Ubuntu after my mother installed some of her favourite MS fonts. She just copied them into the directory that I told her but forgot to adjust the rights for accessing the files. A Website used one of this fonts and Opera recognized it was there, but couldn't read it.
This doesn't seem to be your problem, as these websites use different fonts.

Interesting. Those Websites indeed specifically declare the "Helvetica Neue" font, which I don't have on my system. How do I install those fonts on Fedora? Are they in the repo?

I can highly recommend the Chrome Extension "ChangeColors". It basically allows you on a per-site or per-page basis to customize how a web page displays. Including fonts. Because the behavior is per-site or per-page I find it incredibly useful. BTW the name of the extension derives from the fact that you can set foreground or background colors but for me the most useful aspect is the font control.

Re: Strange Firefox&Chrome issues

Thanks for the hint,LongTimeDabbler. I was looking for a Chrome Extension that could do that.
What would be even greater is if it could replace fonts, as in lets say: Replace all "Helvetica Neue" with "Arial". That would be cool. But so far this already helps alot.

I tried looking for a way to get Helvetica Neue installed, but I just can't find any decent information on the web on how to accomplish that (and I'm a bit of a noob).

Oh my god, why didn't I listen to you at the beginning. This was exactly the problem. I just didn't see it, as I was just searching in /usr/share/fonts and totally forgot about ~./fonts

Thanks a bundle!
