Sysctl's kernel.exec-shield option.

Hello everyone! I would like to ask about sysctl option - kernel.exec-shield. It seems, that it is disabled on Fedora 16 x86. I found interesting answer from mr Roland McGrath and I just want to make sure, that I understand it. So, this option has been removed because of processors which support NX bit used in CPUs to segregate areas of memory? There is no need for using kernel.exec-shield option on processors that support this technology, right?
