How to properly use a VPN connection

Hi guys,

I successfully set up my VPN connection with OpenVPN but I fail to understand how to use it.

I'm successfully connected to the vpn (anna.vpntunnel.se) but when I visit a website like vpntunnel.se or whatismyip.org, I get my public IP and not the one from my VPN.

How should I setup my network manager ? I want all my internet traffic to use the VPN. I tried something like VPNautoconnect but it's only for Ubuntu and it's terrible to install on Fedora even after compiling it from source.

Should I use iptables ? Should I modify an options in firefox/chromium ?

I believe it isn't something that the client needs to setup but has to be done on the server (although it has been a while since I've configured it).

Are you pushing the gateway to the client?

it's the first time I see this command. I don't have any manual entry for push. What does this command do ?

My wired connection is em1 and my vpn tunnel is tun0.

Actually, I don't even have push and when I'm looking for push (yum search push), I get all kind of things but nothing that seem related to networking or vpn.

It isn't a program but an OpenVPN configuration option.

Okay, sorry about that.

I didn't find this option in the network manager but now it's working fine I think.

I had checked a bad option Nework manager -> VPN -> IPv4 settings -> routes -> Use this connection only for resources on its network.

Now that I have unchecked it, it's good. I have a "VPN IP" on the websites like whatismyip.org or vpntunnel.se

I didn't find the setting but I unchecked "Use this connection only for resources on its network" in the IPv4 settings of the VPN in the network manager and it works fine.
