I tried it on my system and it works fine.

So, my guess is that you may not have your volume levels set right.

Run alsamixer and validate that your levels are set properly, then check your pulseaudio volume levels just to ensure that everything is set correctly. You should be fine then.

Stop blaming pulse till you have some facts to back it up. That sort of rumor mongering causs others a lot of trouble.

Dos you sound work completely with pulse ?

Run pavucontrol and alsamixer. Especially pick the right harware config (and run the test) in pavucontrol.

If you can't post the symptoms and maybe the output of also-info

Pulseaudio usually works very well with ALSA and SDL nowadays. What would help is if you could let us know how you installed the programs that don't have sound. Also do the checks as mentioned above and if you still have problems, check the error logs and paste here if you find anything relevant in them.

installed through add/remove, all volume levels are cranked and unmuted, noticing an old bug with the audigy 2 where it has sound in rear plug, center and sub, but no sound out front (green) plug.

Currently upgrading to the rawhide repository and will see if update + reconfiguration will fix it, If not then im out of ideas. I have already covered ALL of the routine stuff.

Gtk-sopwith is the test subject, when it gets its sound back, i will consider the issue corrected
