develfedora, If you're talking about an old "normal" user, you've probably got conflicting configs that your newer desktop doesn't know how to handle. Try removing applicable old dotfiles (like .Xclients) and dotdirs (like .config), then try to log in again. These files are under /home/yourusername/.whatever in case you don't know.
