Re: Harvard and fedora?

I don't know why they would need to affiliated to Red Hat just to host mirrors. Here is a list of Fedora mirrors.

Re: Harvard and fedora?

Fedora repository mirrors are distributed globally and yum choose the mirror in your affinity via the metalink mechanism. It does not necessarily mean the operators of repository servers are affiliated with Red Hat. Many of the mirror operators are professional CDN providers, ISPs or educational institutions.

Re: Harvard and fedora?

It's fairly common for universities or departments to host mirrors of community-based distros. It's a nice throw-back to the 90s.

Re: Harvard and fedora?

Actually Stallman was at Harvard before MIT, and the code sharing available between the two schools contributed to Stallman's ... satori, epiphany, manifesto, psychotic break (choose).

Long history of open source support.

Re: Harvard and fedora?

The reason for the connection is because Fedora and Red Hat are the Harvard of Linux distros.

In comparison, Ubuntu would be the University of Phoenix of Linux distros.

Mark and Ubuntu's contributions

Mark says they contribute in other ways... and that they are responsible for the popularity and ease of use... and that is why a lot of other distros are base on Ubuntu... the fun luv'n good time that is Unity... contribute to Gnome Shell... blah blah blah...

Funny, not once was Debian mentioned as a base. Said it before, I know what Debian is without Ubuntu, not sure what Ubuntu is without Debian.

Re: Harvard and fedora?

When I was updating, yumex had to search for more mirrors. Two that came up in California were UC Davis and USC. Besides, if you are picking priimo mirrors, why not choose Gordon Moore's alma mater, Cal Tech - they also are a mirror. For those born after MTV started, Moore was one of the founders of Intel.
