[SOLVED] Can't set up network access in Fedora16

HI there. My work computer has Windows 7 and I just installed Fedora 16. Network access is not automatic, but the system assigns specific ip address to each work station. So I am using the same ip numbers as with Windows 7: station_ip-netmask-gateway_ip. However, the 'save' button keeps being greyed out. Why can't I get this going? Does Fedora need more settings than Windows 7? There is no password involved. Thanks for your help.

What exactly are you trying to do?

If you have a DHCP server running in your network all you have to do is select on for the wired network.

If you want to configure a static ip address go to IPv4 Settings, select Manual Method and as soon as you enter a valid combination for Address, Netmask and Gateway the Save button will be ungreyed.

Thanks, george_toolan. I figured out my problem: the ifcfg file assumed for some reason that I was on ipv6, instead of 4. I rewrote the file, rebooted and it worked. Strange how a new Fedora install configures things without you telling it...
