How turn off update notifications? (F17)

Can someone explain how F17 checks for and then sends a notification that updates are available?

I want to disable/remove that whole mechanism. It's really annoying.

It looks like it may have something to do with PackageKit, but I am unsure. I tried "yum remove PackageKit", but that's gonna remove a whole lot of other stuff.

Basically, I don't want PackageKit to ever run/exist. I'll settle with not being notified, but even then, I've remembered in the past, PackageKit disallowing yum from running... which is another annoyance I want to take care of.

Not sure if this works, but Fedora 16 has a program called Software Settings

speaking of which, in F17 is there any way other than...
Code:
gpk-prefs
to access this, like from the GUI?

That's the old way. yum-updatesd isn't installed anymore in default installs now.

gpk-prefs works. Thanks. That would have taken me some time to find that.
