Unhappy Error 15: File Not Found

It's been a while since my last post on FedoraForum since I've been so busy with school, but now I'm back and want to install Fedora again!.....but I'm having some issues.

So, currently, I have a laptop (that does NOT have an optical drive) with Windows 7 installed on it, so I need to install via USB.

I've created about 100gb of unpartitioned space on my disk and plan on installing F17 so I can dual-boot.

I downloaded the F17 (64bit) Live CD:
  • First, i used the Fedora "LiveUSB Creator"
  • Then, I used unetbootin

....with the exact same outcome:

I reboot my laptop, boot from USB, GRUB comes up, after the 10second wait, it says something like:
Quote:
Error 15: File not found
Press any key to continue...
After looking at the contents of the USB drive (in Windows), I changed some folder names ("isolinux" and "syslinux") in order to MAYBE help "Find the file" - it didn't fix my problem.

I downloaded the full F17 DVD and repeated the same procedure to no avail. This is so frustrating I've searched around, visited the IRC guys, and just can't figure this out

Can someone please help me?

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

Try using Multisystem. I used it to install 7 linux systems [including Fedora 17] on a single 8 gig USB.

Would I need to boot from the USB every time? Surely there's a way to get around this problem without using so 3rd party application, right?

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

What kind of a netbook is this?

Are you booting in UEFI mode or BIOS compatibility mode?

Does this thing have a boot menu where you could try to boot the USB drive in BIOS compatibility mode?

It's a Lenovo s205 (I actually found another guy having the same problem on the exact same computer, here)

When my computer starts up, I keep pressing F12 until the boot list comes up. Then I select the USB option, and it boots to the USB (I know this because I see the Fedora grub display).

I hope that answers your question... Thank you for your assistance!

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

Looks like it doesn't like the new grub version 0.97-93.fc17 or something like that.

Try to install Fedora 17 alpha or beta first with liveusb-creator. For some reason liveusb-creator doesn't seem to overwrite the old grub even if you use the -m option.

GNU GRUB version 0.97-86.fc17 from the beta cd seems to be working fine.

Code:
liveusb-creator -m Fedora-17-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso
I now have one usb drive which says "alpha" and another one which says "beta" at the grub screen, but they both boot the final Fedora 17 LiveCD ;-)

Btw you have to change the LABEL to "LIVE" otherwise it won't boot properly and stop with a dracut error.

I'll try this now! Thank you!

EDIT:
Just so I understand.... I'm supposed to download the F17_Alpha ISO, use liveusb-creator to get it on my USB, then use liveusb-creator again to get the F17_Final ISO onto my USB, then reboot and install?

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

Worked for me ;-)

You could try to boot the beta first to see if it installed the correct grub version.

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

The F17-Alpha torrent is way too slow, so I'm trying this with F14.

Hopefully it'll work! I'm excited

F14 booted just fine. I tried to use the liveusb-creator and it said it would replace the contents of my flash drive. I proceeded and it replaced grub so I'm back at my 'File not found' error

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

I think the problem is with the boot configuration files and the folder naming. the best try I got so far, was to rename the folder syslinx to isolinux (if one of the usb creating tools missed that) and to remove the line findiso (i found that in antother thread here ).

the system seems to boot then but then drops back to console.

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

Did you change the LABEL to "LIVE"?

Re: Error 15: File Not Found

I hope F16 isn't much different than F17...I might just install F16, which is really sad

Did you solve this?
