fc17 updating blocked

I tried to update fc17- Release 17 (BeefyMiracle) 64-bit, Kernel Linux 3.4.0-1.fc17.x86_64, with GNOME 3.4.2, but the effort failed leaving the message:

'ooobasis3.4-core01-3.4.0-9590.x86_64 requires openoffice.org-ure
openoffice.org3-3.4.0-9590.x86_64 requires openoffice.org-ure : Protected multilib versions: redhat-lsb-4.1-4.fc17.x86_64 != redhat-lsb-4.0-11.fc17.i686.'

Any suggestion to overcome this will be appreciated.

Re: fc17 updating blocked

I had that problem a few days ago. Use yum to first remove the offending "redhat-lsb.i686" package, then perform the update operation again.

Re: fc17 updating blocked

I don't have skype installed at the moment but I do have Google Earth in my x86_64 system. The latter still works so far in my system after that. Perhaps you should start another thread for troubleshooting skype and Google Earth.

I also had "redhat-lsb.i686" with a few other i686 packages installed in my system to make Google Earth happy after its installation. I do not use Autoplus as I want to learn how to make thing works myself. You could take the easy route to use Autoplus to install Skype and Google Earth for you.

Anyway, this is my suggestion if you want to do it the hard way. Open a terminal window then use "ldd" command to see which i686 shared libraries are missing in your system. For example, for Google Earth:

Code:
$ ldd /opt/google/earth/free/googleearth-bin
Based on your output, try to hunt down the missing libraries, if any. In my system this command produces result showing I have all the shared libraries. BTW, I keep in Gnote the list of packages I have installed back then. Here is the list after adapting to F17 to my best effort.

redhat-lsb-desktop.i686
redhat-lsb-printing.i686
libXrender.i686
qt-devel.i686
qtwebkit-devel.i686
freetype.i686
freetype-freeworld.i686 (if you are not using infinality package)

Re: fc17 updating blocked

Thanks very much for taking keen interest in my problem. Instantly I am not going to deal with skype and google earth but will certainly keep in mind your valuable advice when I decide to take them up and will return to you for further suggestion if necessary.
