[SOLVED] Sound problem after latest software update + reboot on FC16

Hello,

I was already running FC16 just fine and could play back sound just fine; I only had problems with microphone. So, I thought, I'd troubleshoot my Mic problems only after doing the latest software update... because you never know the update could 'automatically' solve my Mic problems.

However, after doing the latest software update (using the Gnome GUI version of the Software Update program), I'm realizing -- to my horror-- that even my playback functionality has ceased to work now. That is, I cannot any more hear any sound whatsoever!

I've tried some of the things mentioned at PulseAudio fixes and workarounds, but still no luck.

I'm using Gnome. Attached, please also find the output of the `alsa-info.sh` program.

Would greatly appreciate if someone could please help.

1. I continued to have no sound even after uninstalling 'alsa-plugins-pulseaudio' (and rebooting). So, I re-installed this package (and rebooted).

2. The various levels in `alsamixer` are just fine and nothing is muted.

3. For my Subsystem ID, I googled for: "1028:04f5" alsa . Nothing turned up... except some dumps of `alsa-info.sh` on alsa-project.org.

What to do now?

Someone please help. I don't understand Linux sound, don't know what my troubleshooting options are at this point.

Fedora 17 Live CD has no such problem. I think, I'll go with an F17 upgrade.
