Copy Screenshot to Clipboard

Hey All,

Been using Fedora for about a year and a half now, and it's my favorite distro, but I have one small issue. For one of my classes, I need to screen capture a program, then submit the screenshot in a word doc. Right now, that means I have to take a screenshot, go to my Pictures folder, open the picture with GIMP, select all, copy, then finally paste the screenshot into the word doc.

My question is, is there a way I can be prompted what I would like to do with the screenshot once I take it? My old fedora 16 install did this, but I've lost the ability to in 17, and don't know how to get it back. I'd like to just be able to copy the screenshot to the clipboard as soon as its taken, the paste it straight into the word doc with no middleman. Any advice would be appreciated!

Mine seem to get auto-saved as .png under Pictures (with both Cinnamon & Gnome).

I installed the KDE screenshot utility Ksnapshot. It works better than the Gnome utility and has 'send to', 'copy' and 'save as' buttons.

xfce4-screenshooter works fine for that.


Despite the bad reputation the GNOME developers built themselves, I don't think they simply removed all the features from gnome-screenshot. Have a look on its manual or run gnome-screenshot --help

edit- and if you find the interactive option, then replace the command for the 'Print' key for your keyboard shortcuts.

There are two possible short-cuts, aside from using a different screen-capture program as others have suggested.

1) Create the screen-shot with GIMP directly: File->Create->Screenshot... – then copy and paste as you're already doing.

2) Use your existing screen-shot method, but skip the GIMP stage. In LibreOffice Writer, use Insert->Picture->From File... instead of copy and paste.

Hit prtscrn, save the file, grab the file, drag it into word processor. No need to use whacked out processes, you can drag a file and drop it straight into a document. It will know what to do.
