autofs not mounting usb disk after twicking

hi, the system is fedora core 3 and the usb disk is a LG, until last night i hd no problems.
i was pluging in the usb and fedora would mount it automatically creating a /media/usbmedia (or similar) directory.

now, last night i opened the services application because i wanted to close all the unnessesary services.
i closed some, like sendmail, rpc, etc. but not autofs.

now, neither the usb key nor the camera are being mounted, and i need to do them manually, meaning i need to mess with fstab, etc...

any ideas?

any help is appreciated.

You could post the output of
/sbin/chkconfig --list
and perhaps someone will see a critical service shut off.
One assumes udev still detects the device. Look in /var/log/messages after you plug it in and see if there is some error.
Also try
/sbin/lsusb
before and after plugging it in.

I think the critical process in detecting hot-plug usb devices is haldaemon and you have it turned on. Perhaps you changed something else besides the services. (After all, how can you be a real Linux user and not change 3 or 4 configuration files and do some updates everytime you turn the machine on?) Did you try /sbin/lsusb before and after plugging-in a usb device?

i turned on, i checked that the daemon is running and it is. still USB, camera, cdrom.... no automounts.

lsusb before plugin the usb key shows:

lsusb after plugin the usb key shows:

I can understand why fstab-sync won't use the mount points you put in /etc/fstab if they don't have the keyword "managed" in them. But I don't understand why HAL didn't call fstab-sync and create some new mount point, like /media/usb3.
You should be able to see the event where the device is plugged-in in /var/log/messages. Were there any errors reported there?
