FC4 on Dell Inspiron 6000 "Rich... but not smooth'

Well, after spending 18 hours to download the DVD iso (yes people 18 hours with high speed internet) I finally got FC4 installed on my Dell Inspiron 6000. Gotta say it's beautiful.
I like the built-in Eclipse but for some reason Eclipse is much slower than it is on my XP machine? I was able to set my screen resolution to 1280x800, that makes it look great. Look around see people talking about the Centrino battery stuff, what's that heck is the problem? Will it give me more battery life if I install the right driver? Right now I have about 4 hrs with full charge (about 1 hr less compare to in XP).
Ok, FC sees all my hardware, that's sweet but couple things does not work.
First, wireless network Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG does'n work. I see it listed in network hardware.
Second, I can't here any sound at all. Tried to un-mute all in volume control but still no sound.
Anyone with the Dell Insprion 6000 have the some issues could give me some advise? Thanks in advance.

The soundcard issue was covered by someone in the FC4 RC forums. However, if you have Kmix available, Go to the "switches" tab and make sure the "External Amplifier" switch is enabled.

I had the same problem with the sound card.

As far as the wiress, you might want to look into the ipw2200 kernel module.
http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/

Did the trick for me.

Good luck

I have the same problem too. Mine is worse as I cannot set the resolution to 1280x800 as the screen will go haywire..... So I'm living with 1024x768.

did you got your sound to work? I managed to got it working last week. Now just the damn wireless.
For the screen resolution, just go to screen resolution and pick general LCD, then pick 1280x800. That should do it.

Yes the sound is working now, but I´m exploring on getting gstreamer plugging to work with amarok.

For the screening resolution, I tried that but somewhat it does not work.....

For one time, my wireless was working. However, after i rebooted it went back to detecting it as a ethernet card again. What I did was downloading the ipw2200 rpms as recommended under other topics.
