vsftpd

I installed FC4 with vsftpd. How do I begin sharing files online? Is there a GUI? That would be nice. Even though there are no GUI, it is cool. I think I knew how to start it after asking in a Swedish forum but I don't really know how to share files. I laid files in a folder and then ftp://[my-ip] in firefox. I could see the files which was funny but no one could download. Should I fix the firewall?

All I am asking for is kinda like a guide were you fast learn how to set up a simple server containing some files. I wan't it easier than this. All I wan't is to share files quickly to friends and all they have to do is to get their browser up and just type ftp://[my-ip] and then they can download files.

No, a server! I allready have a client, it comes to GNOME and you can just type ftp fatburen.org in the terminal for example.

Well all you really need to do is configure vsftpd with a public folder. This has been deliberately been made non-default as it exposes your files to the public. So you need to do a little reading to ensure you understand what you are getting into first, that reading should also provide you with the information on how to set up what you want.

I think this is mostly what you will need: http://www.siliconvalleyccie.com/lin...m#_Toc92808798

Lightbulb Try a different server

I would actually suggest using proftpd instead. It seems more secure from the word go.

Not that ftp is secure because of lack of encription.

I use vsftpd atm myself, but when i havbe time I will be moving to proftpd.
The documentation available on the proftpd site seems to make it easier to configure.
