trouble using Alien to convert deb to rpm

hi. trying to convert netzero.deb to .rpm as Netzero is my ISP, and i'd like to keep it that way.

So I finally figured out how to successfully install some older version of alien with my FC4. (I'm a newbie.) The latest version caused me problems with dependencies that I couldn't get out of in 24 hours. (my rule of thumb at this point is that it each goal must be done in 24 hours in my learning of linux.)

I try to install with alien. and i get the following :

Examining /dosd/fed/netzero.deb
tar:control: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
--Unpacking /dosd/fed/netzero.deb
--Automatic spec file generation
alien:rpm --showrc failed

------------------------------------
what does this mean and what can i do?
