Kernel/Video questions. Thanx guys!!

Hello,

I have a Pentium 4 HT 3.0Ghz. The Kernel that's installed by default is SMP showing 2 CPUs running. How can I be sure I'm running the correct kernel, hence getting the most out of my CPU? It appears to be running as an i386, but shouldn't it be an i686??

Also, I've installed the ATi Drivers according to FedoraFaq.org. How can I be sure I'm getting the most out of my Video?? It's a Radeon 9650 256Megs AGP.

I've ordered a FC5 book, hoping to advance my knowledge. Everyday I am learning something new, and this forum makes a huge difference!!

Please let me know if you need output from anything to see what's running and THANX FOR HELPING!!!

Joseph

these are actually questions I've been wondering about; and unfortunately I can't answer either of them for you... but could I ask what book you've ordered? I wouldn't mind getting one to learn some more stuff

Hello:
You can have a look at your /usr/src/kernels and see what is installed ...it is most likely i686

I'm not a noob, but I'm not quite mediocre just yet. Therefore, I believe what I'm about to say may sound more noobish but I apologise...

I don't think I installed the source, therefore the only directory is:

/usr/src/redhat

underneath that are some other directories but their empty.

You've already helped me once Seve, so I appreciate your time. I hope to give back to the Linux community someday.

The book I've ordered is Fedora Core 5 Unleashed. It's supposedly published last week so I'm waiting for it. $40 - $50 bux if I remember correctly. Hardcover with FC5 DVD. I have basic linux experience but require MORE.

Hello:
You are on the correct track, but if you are interested in the source files .. they are not installed on default basis.
You can, if you have not already installed the kernel-devel*
If you really need the source you can download and install from here: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu.../source/SRPMS/
