I set the resolution wrong and can't see anything

I set my resolution to 1200x1600 (which my monitor can support), but the refresh rate is 75 Hz and it should be 60 Hz.

When the x-server starts I get a "frequency out of range" error on the monitor.

I either need to boot into 'safe mode' (provided Linux has something like that?), or find someway to set the frequency to 60 Hz.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Nick
