three questions: mounting, kernel update, cleanup

hello everybody,

I have a practically nonexistant Linux experience and some questions about Fedora.

firstly. I have one harddisk, which is divided into three partitions: one for Windows (NTFS), one for data storage (NTFS) and one for Fedora (EXT3). I would like to automagically mount the two NTFS partitions on startup and it would be nice to have them listed as disks when I click 'Computer' on my desktop (the two are displayed there, but when I try to mount them, I get a permission error: 'You are not privileged two mount the volume...'). I have installed the NTFS kernel module, I have mounted them but I just don't understand how I could make that happen automatically.

secondly. I updated my kernel and now there are two choices in GRUB for me to boot - just as I expected. but is there a way to get rid of, for example, the older kernel?

thirdly. is there a way (or is it required) to clean the filesystem up every now and then? (for example, for deleting temporary files, etc.)

thanks in forward,
klimbermann

1. Edit the file /etc/fstab to mount partitions automatically at boot. See: http://wiki.linux-ntfs.org/doku.php?..._automatically
2. It's recommend to keep one old kernel around in case of bugs in the new one. Yum/Software Updater in FC5 will automatically keep two latest kernel generations and delete the older ones.
3. The tmpwatch and logrotate programs that are run daily will clean up temporary files and log files automatically.

thank you very much, markkuk. you answered everything I had in mind.

...almost. is it possible to put these two partitions right under 'Computer' on the desktop (you know, the place where I have all the drives and media shown)?

Sorry, I don't have any 'Computer' on my KDE desktop. Maybe it's a Gnome thing?
