virtual consoles - gnome treminal

ok, i'm au fait with <ctrl><alt>F1-F7 etc no problem there...

my query is that I am in "gnome-terminal" connected to a nother linux box via "cu". I want to be able to switch virtual consoles within this remote linux box...

when I give the <ctrl><alt>F1-F7 command it executes locally...
