My friend, who's still on XP, has a ~250gig external, USB 2.0 HDD, in NTFS format. I want to use it to transfer files, however, even after installing ntfs-3g, I can't write to the drive. If I mount it with read-only, I can read it fine, and take files from it, but I can't mount it in write mode. If I try, I get a big long error message that tells me, among other things, that the logfile is bad and I need to either reboot in windows and shut down the filesystem safely, or if it's a removable device (which it is) to use the Safely Remove Hardware option. The other option is to mount in read-only, or to use the force option to access rwx priveleges. I tried using Safely Remove, didn't change anything. It sounds like the force option is what I want, but I have no idea what command it's for. The manual entry on # mount didn't have anything about a force option. Anyone know what to do?
