A good partion layout

Dear all,

I would like to know what is the best partition layout for a 250 GB Hard disk for a single boot linux OS with 8 GB RAM.

I was wondering if there are any restrictions on the size of the partition similar to in windows like fat or ntfs.

Thanks.

You might also want to put /tmp and /var on separate partitions.

Will this be a server or a desktop? If it's a desktop, then you can go with Leigh's recommendation. If it's a server (sounds like it, with 8gb RAM), then you probably don't need a huge /home partition, if at all. If this will strictly be an web, application, or database server, then you can put /home in a very small partition and give the rest to the root partition.

Thanks for all your posts. So it seems there is no restriction on the partition size as far as linux is concerned.

What about me and my 3 hardisks.

I got a 15gb 7200rpm , a 27gb 5400rpm and a 80gb with fat32 containing musick, videos, games and files.

Wouls it be beneficial to install some part of fedora on the faster hardisk and other on the slower?
System files and swap on the 7200rpm and home, temp and sutch one the slower one?
