Angry DnsMasq as local Cache rather than Forward Cacher Server

Hello all expert administrator, i have Fedora 7 gateway running in front of my others desktop.

As you all know, dnsmasq will forward the dns queries which listed in /etc/resolv.conf but this setting is not i want.

Basically, i want dnsmasq to look to another file to queires instead of forward it to upstream server.

I have read an articles from internet and manual pages but really not really understand.

From the article, set up --server /etc/resolv.dnsmasq and put the dns server of ISP.

After that, run it with -r /etc/resolv.dnsmasq

Moreover, i want TTL option to keep more than than its live. I want set it as longer as possible.

I hope you all can help me.

Thanks for your help.

Your help is greatly appreciated by me and others.

Dnsmasq can't resolve recursive DNS queries by itself, it must forward any query that isn't resolved by the cached information or /etc/hosts to an upstream server. If you want a complete DNS server, install BIND instead of dnsmasq.

Messing with TTL values is a bad idea and will break name resolution.
