Unhappy 1st dvd fine. 2nd dvd problem

Hi
I bought a 2nd dual layer dvd drive, but I can't get it to play anything. Been googling for a while but I can't find a similar situation, so I decided to ask for some help. The error I'm getting is:
There is no input plugin available to handle dvd:/ or
The source can't be read. Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain any data
I've tried region 1,2, & 3 disks. Even a backup dvd won't play. I also tried playing the dvd on totem-xine, vlc, xine and kaffeine
As I mentioned in the title, I have no problems with the old one. I can watch any dvd on it as long as it is region 2 with all the above programs..

The new drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-115D Dual Layer -- /dev/sr0
and this is the old one, ATAPI DVD Dual -- /dev/sr1

Any clues anyone. any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Just a thought but if you installed them on the same cable did you set the jumpers, one to master and one to slave?

Good thought. Yes they were set to master and slave.
