i8k not present in any FC6 kernel

Hi,
I've just installed a FC6 on my Inspiron 9400 for installing the IBM SDK for Cell development ( first I've tried F7, but there were some problems with my ATI x1400, so I decided to use FC6 which works perfectly without problems on boot ).

As you may know, Dell has well known problems on fans control, so I've decided to install the gkrellm and the i8kutils plugin for controlling them, as I did on my ubuntu.
I've installed the RPMs without problems, but the i8kutils doesn't work 'cause needs the i8k.ko kernel, which seems not present in my default kernel, i.e. 2.18.XXXX ( the one coming with the FC6 i386 DVD ). The modprobe i8k force=1 doesn't work, 'cause it doesn't the module, which should under /lib/modules/mykernel/kernel/drivers/char/i8k.ko, but there isn't.
I've searched through the net and I've found a problem like mine, in which the suggestion was to upgrade the kernel, 'cause in the newest ones the i8k.ko should be preset.
Happy about this solution, I've just upgraded my kernel yumming yum upgrade kernel. The new kernel 2.6.22.xx was installed and then, after a reboot, it was ready to go.
I've tried the gkrellm but the i8kutils didn't find yet the /proc/i8k and infact this .ko is not present where it should be, and during boot the "Loading i8k module" fails.

May you help me please? Do you know how I could this i8k.ko? I have search through the i8kutils sources and I've seen in the makefile a comment "i8k should be present in the kernel" so it seems to me the rpm install should not put this module in the repository, 'cause it assumes the kernel already has it. But it isn't so.
I've also thought to run make configure of the kernel enabling this driver, should it work?
On ubuntu this was present or at least installed within the i8kutils. Is this a bug of i8kutils under Fedora?

Do you know any kernel on FC6 containing this i8k.ko or how to create it?

Thank you, without it my fans sometimes start slowing down the machine.

Thank you in advance.

Ricky
