Boot problem winXP - Fedora

I just installed fedora on my laptop on a new partition and the problem is I can't get into windows onymore. When I start up I get my Grub loader with Fedora and Dos.
Now is my question, how do I get into windows XP :s 'cause I need it for school.

Dos is XP

the DOS label in Grub is for XP (assuming that you have XP installed, otherwise it would be for whichever Windows installation you have).

winXP dual boot problem.

I have two hardrives.
Master(hd0) <--- Fedora's residence.
Slave(hd1) <--- This is where my WinXP lives.

Both HD used to windows, and I just recently formatted and put in Fedora in my first hard drive. I realise windows doesn't being second. =)

I'm using grub. The default config does not work. [ rootnoverify(hd0,0) chainloader +1]
I've even tried the 'swapping' technique with[ map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) ]. In some configs I've gotten the NTLDR is missing message,(which is the best i've gotten).

So, how do i boot from widows from 2rd hd?

thanks in advance.

Possible solutions to XP dual booting problem

There seem to be a few solutions to this problem going around:
1) Upgrade BIOS

2) set disk configuration to LBA in BIOS

3) "as suggested by Alexandre Oliva on fedora-test-list, run:

sfdisk -d /dev/hda | sfdisk --no-reread -H240 /dev/hda

The 240 value worked for me, in other cases probably 255 is better."

4) The solution at: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedor.../msg02114.html
apparently works for older notebooks.

Please note that I have not experienced this problem first hand and have not tried either of these solutions first hand. My dual boot installation of FC2 with XP worked flawlessly.

Thumbs up

I have a dual boot system using 2 drives hda is master w/ XP and hdb is slave with FC2. I couldn't boot into Windows until I changed the bios settings from "Auto" to "LBA" on hda, Everything seems to work fine now dual boot with either system . It was a bummer at first as for 3 weeks I couldn't access my XP system (although i have a laptop w/ XP) Fortunately i had all of my critical data backed up. The upside was that I didn't have any choice but to use Fedora for several weeks for work and I loved it and will stick with it. It was a bit a learning curve as I am a Linux newbie but well worth the effort. Tks to the the helpful and insightful participation of the members of this forum the transition was allot easier than it might have been. Happy Camper

Do you know if the problem may affect also systems which are dual boot with Win 98 ? I've red that should affect only systems with XP or 2000, is it really so?

Thanks in advance,

Marco
