[Solved] Vertical Lines!

Uh, hello, everyone, I'm Marcel; I think this is my first thread here so just lemme introduce myself before getting onto the topic. I'm from New Jersey and I like Pink Floyd! That's basically it. Oh, also, I liked Ted, that movie-film. Anyways, I recently installed Fedora 17 on my 2010 Macbook Air. I had problems installing it, but once I installed the boot loader to /dev/sda it seemed to work okay. I am running Mac OS X Lion, Fedora Linux 17, and Windows 7 on this computer. Okay, going on, when I inserted the disc using an external drive it seemed to work fine except for these weird purple-ish blinking lights on the right part of the screen. The problem still persisted when I booted up into the installed Fedora. It's not a big deal, but could I at least get an explanation of what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Marcel Jagielko

Wait, sorry, uhhh, the lines disappeared after I installed some drivers.

Re: Vertical Lines!

I had Fedora 16 triple booted on the 2010 Macbook Air without problem, I wrote a "how to" here. For the display, did you install the nvidia driver?

I am not sure how well Fedora 17 works. I'd also check that you have an nvidia graphics card by using lspci.

If memory serves Apple switched from nVidia to Intel in 2010 so you need to make sure you have the correct driver installed.

Yeah, thanks. I did that and it's okay now. Err, also if you install these drivers and you're watching a YouTube video turn off Hardware Acceleration (Right click the YouTube video box and click 'Settings") or else your videos may have a blue tint to them.

I wonder if that's a recent update? I was certainly watching youtube videos fine. I presume that some kernel update or something has bust it recently. I think, after further updates, it may well get "fixed"
